Sustainable Landscape Checklist
Sustainable {vb} to cause to continue (as in existence or a certain state or in force or intensity), to keep up especially without interruption or diminution, to maintain, to prolong.
A sustainable landscape is one which contains the following characteristics:
- Has a design that is correctly applied for the use of the property.
- Utilizes an ET based irrigation controller.
- Has plant species that require minimal maintenance, and are applicable to the specific project and climate zone.
- Are irrigated by Sub-surface Drip Irrigation (SDI)
- Is governed by Sustainable Landscape Management Specifications (SLMS).
- Preserves limited natural resources.
- Prevents air, water and soil pollution.
- Reduces waste generation.
- Minimizes the environmental impact while maximizing the return on invested dollars.
- Has an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan.
- Contains a diversity of habitats appropriate for the local ecosystem.
- Utilizes local materials.
- Procures recycled and renewable materials.
