Sustainable Landscape Checklist

Sustainable {vb} to cause to continue (as in existence or a certain state or in force or intensity), to keep up especially without interruption or diminution, to maintain, to prolong.

A sustainable landscape is one which contains the following characteristics:

  • Has a design that is correctly applied for the use of the property.
  • Utilizes an ET based irrigation controller.
  • Has plant species that require minimal maintenance, and are applicable to the specific project and climate zone.
  • Are irrigated by Sub-surface Drip Irrigation (SDI)
  • Is governed by Sustainable Landscape Management Specifications (SLMS).
  • Preserves limited natural resources.
  • Prevents air, water and soil pollution.
  • Reduces waste generation.
  • Minimizes the environmental impact while maximizing the return on invested dollars.
  • Has an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan.
  • Contains a diversity of habitats appropriate for the local ecosystem.
  • Utilizes local materials.
  • Procures recycled and renewable materials.
