Taxes are for the “little people”!!

Posted in: Capital

According to the NY Times, corporate giant GE Corp managed to pay no US Federal Income Tax! That is correct!! None, nada, zero money to Uncle Sam on a rather respectable income of just over $15 Billion dollars.

This comes as no surprise. More than a handful of Fortune 100 companies paid nothing, not a single cent in Federal income taxes. It does bring back such fond memories of that special image of Leona Helmsley the billionaire heiress at her income tax evasion trial in 1989.  The then labeled “queen of mean” had her fate sealed when a former housekeeper testified that she heard Helmsley say: “We don’t pay taxes. Only the little people pay taxes.” Times change, taxes do not!

On a much brighter note, there is some good news for the not so little people, CNN is reporting that Corporate CEO’s now make 343 times more money than the average employee.

Quoting Plato-”The greatest wealth is to live content on little” it appears the US Government and the CEO’s of America intend to see that Plato is correct!
